"Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions."
— Albert Einstein
When it comes to health, or any aspect of life, many people find
it hard to change, because they rely on ‘will power’. Then
when they fail to make the change they lament that its all down
to a lack of will power.
Nothing could be further for the truth though. We all have will
power, lots of it, but most of us use it in the wrong way and
direct it at the wrong target.
As the quote from Albert Einstein hints, all the greatest
achievers in the world got there by using their imagination –
by visualising what they wanted and imagining themselves as they
would be, or doing the things they needed to do in order to get
what they wanted.
Planning things in your imagination is the vital first stage,
and you must repeatedly do it. It is also much, much easier
than doing the real thing, but what it achieves over time is a
change in your self image. When you have achieved the self image
of someone who eats healthily, exercises and doesn’t smoke it is
far easier to eat healthily, exercise and not smoke. If however
you are a lazy, junk food eating smoker, and that is how you see
yourself it will take huge efforts to change.
There is another vital ingredient that needs to be added to your
visualisation though before you can change your self image –
and that is emotion. There are many ways to get your emotions
charged up (see the Psycho-Cybernetics course for more details
http://tinyurl.com/y92d3vb )and many emotions that can be positively used.
The emotion that is best, according to Dr Maxwell Maltz, is
compassion.
Compassion is also that recommended in most religious texts, but
the Tibetan Buhddist tradition in particular puts a lot of
practice into eliciting compassion. Along with Dr Maltz’s
Pscycho-Cybernetics I thoroughly recommend everyone reads The
Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche -
http://tinyurl.com/ydhdfjv.
Quite a few patients have read this book after loosing a loved
one and found its wisdom helpful, I was certainly glad I had
read and practiced some of its techniques before my grandparents
died.
So getting back to a positive note, get your compassion going,
visualise yourself doing and behaving as you wish, add in some
more emotion, and practice daily morning and night. This will
help you change your self image, and you’ll find yourself
changing without will power!
Let me know how you go.

Michael Jackson's Doctor Rant
With a medical doctor being 'done' for manslaughter for injecting drugs that any doctor in the the US or UK would use how can I not have a rant.
Although I am extremely happy that the dangers of pain killers is being highlighted I am dissappointed with the verdict of the Judge. This MD was doing what thousands of others do every day, yet because he injected into Pop Mega Star Michael Jackson he is being put in prison, while thousands go free to continue their practice.
Now I'm not saying doctors are knowingly injecting highly dangerous drugs, no, what I'm saying is that they are plain ignorant of it. What the Judge should have done is launch an investigation into the whole misguided practice of 'pain relief' medicine, to try and save future lives.
I only hope that medical doctors around the world will sit up and take note that what they are doing really is dangerous and deadly and they really should have a look at alternatives.
Let's see ahat happens shall we?

Fish Oil is Better than Snake Oil
For many years now nutritional experts have been promoting the beneficial effects of fish oils on joints and the heart. According to US government statistics 84,000 deaths a year could be prevented by adequate omega 3 intake. Fish oils are also highly recommended for brain and nervous system health.
Recent studies have found taking 4 fish oil capsules a day can prevent psychosis and schizophrenia in those at risk:
Fish oil prevents psychosis
...and even prevent tooth decay:
Fish oil prevents tooth decay
It is important to realise though that not all fish oils are equal, and you should look for molecular distilled or pharmaceutical grade ones that have had pollutants removed. In our clinic we use Higher Nature, Innate Choice and Reflex.

Posture and Success
Good news, great news in fact.
As I've said before, the most important thing to do to get your brain really working for you is to have a goal, a purpose, a sense of direction. Having a sense of direction is Dr Maxwell Maltz’s fist part of the Success Mechanism, in his book Psycho-Cybernetics (links at bottom of page for various links to the book).
Now this is just a guess, but metaphorically speaking the way we all want to go in life is up. It also turns out this is literally what we should all be doing in order to gain maximum health – stand up strait, in other words adopt great posture.
According to the work of Nobel Prize winner Roger Sperry, 90% of the brain’s energy and activity is given over too trying to keep us upright versus gravity.
That is a truly staggering amount and only leaves 10% to deal with other bodily processes, thinking and healing. If your posture is poor, either through habit or because a joint in your spine is stiff, then your brain has to put even more energy into coping with gravity. Bad posture is now being linked not just with back pain, neck pain, headaches and breathing difficulties, but also hormonal disruption, blood pressure, immune function and mood.
Sperry’s work also concluded that if your brain did not receive signals from the rest of your body it would tend to slip into a coma. The largest input is from movement, 90% of which comes from the spine.
As you can see, Sperry’s work is of the utmost importance for understanding just how important chiropractic is, not just for getting out of pain, but for promoting and maintaining general good health, as not only does it heal posture, it keeps your brain awake.
This is why I check posture every time I see a patient, and always encourage corrective exercises and habits.

Stay Motivated
3 topics today, first ‘get your mind working for you’, second – a bit of fun/business I did before Christmas, third – how to get your chiropractic emergency pain relief care for free.
Yes, the New Year is well and truly settling in and Resolutions are probably already forgotten because they haven’t been properly planned.
Today, I shall bring you the first gem from the PsychoCybenetics (PC) course by Dr Maxwell Maltz, for those of you not already reading the book, here are some links:
Paperback version – paperback Psycho Cybernetics
Audio version/workbook – audio Psycho Cybernetics
The basic, underlying principle of PC, is that your brain works like a guided missile – if you are off course it tries to correct you. You may zig and zag, but overall you will keep on track. This guidance system can either be used for failure, or success, depending on how we aim it. This brings up the important point that in order for a missile to hit its target…it must have one, and the same is true of the brain. If you have no goals or aspirations to target than your brain will either not function for your benefit, or worse – head off in the wrong direction. So first – pick a goal, then figure out which direction you need to go – i.e. do a bit of planning. Say for instance you made a resolution to “be healthier this year”, ask yourself how are you going to achieve this; will you eat more vegetables, eat less sugar, exercise more, enlist the help of a professional to keep you on track etc.
It’s simple really, and like so many parts of the ‘success mechanism’ as Dr Maltz called it, its so simple most people don’t do it!
I’ll bring you more form Dr M soon.
Now here’s a bit of fun. Being self employed means things like snow effect my income (though it did also mean I had 2 great days of sledging with my sons). One way I increase my business is through networking (word of mouth) at groups such as the BNI. Anyway, in December BNI launched a competition to do a video and put it on YouTube. If you want to see the results, and try and guess which one I am (you’ll understand if you watch it) then have a laugh on me –

Forget About Cholesterol - Get Your CRP Checked
Despite conventional medicine insisting on rigorous investigation for other forms of healthcare, saying without it these alternatives are worthless, they are truly unaware of how much is unknown about how the drugs they use.
For example it is still unknown exactly how aspirin works, despite it being recommended for all sorts today. The artificial sweetener aspartame was apparently being developed as an ulcer drug, but when it didn’t work it got re-sold as a sweetener as someone in the lab had tasted it.
This, however is nothing compared to the latest offering –
One drug company developed a drug, pagoclone, specifically for treating panic disorders. As is often the case though the drug failed to perform in clinical trials.
Instead of giving up, they retried pagoclone as a solution to premature ejaculation. No luck there either.
Finally pagoclone has been found to help people who stutter and I believe has now been licensed.
Statins, are marketed as cholesterol lowering drugs, yet the evidence tells us that any good effect they have is NOT through lowering cholesterol, and the only people who really benefit are people with already low cholesterol, not high! A new trail however has just started to shed light on this:
As many ‘alternative’ health care practitioners will tell you, inflammation is more related to heart disease than high cholesterol. At last medicine has decided to examine what its own experts have been saying for years and measured a marker called C Reactive protein in people with heart failure.
One group was put on a statin, the other – nothing. Both groups had CRP and cholesterol levels checked. Both groups also started with the same cholesterol levels.
There was another subdivision of those with high CRP, and those with low CRP.
First of all, the statin lowered the cholesterol equally in both high and low CRP groups, but the death rate was different. While the those with high CRP did slightly better on the statin (8.5% fewer deaths than on the group on placebo)), those with low CRP on statins faired worse than placebo – almost 13% worse.
So this study gives us more insite into when to takes statins – high CRP – yes, low CRP – definitely not. High cholesterol – irrelevant.
As a side note, in the article the authors stated, “We examined whether the anti-inflammatory action of statins may be of benefit in heart failure, a state characterized by inflammation in which low cholesterol is associated with worse outcomes.”
Again acknowledging that high cholesterol is NOT a cause of heart failure, but low cholesterol.
I hope that you take this evidence to your doctor and get your CRP checked!

Nurofen Causes Alzheimer’s and Dementia?
A recent study in the US has found if you take the equivalent of 6 nurofen a day over a prolonged period (years) you are 66% more likely to get dementia, and 57% more likely to get Alzheimer’s.
However, before you blame pain killers for any relatives brain problems keep this in mind:
One of the modern theories for the prevalence of diseases such as arthritis, cancer, heart disease, cancer and dementia in the West is that they are all caused by the same thing – inflammation secondary to poor lifestyle choices. So it may be these people where going to get dementia anyway, its just that they had pain full inflammation before they got the brain inflammation.
This is all irrelevant however as if you’re in pain you should of course see a chiropractor, go on an anti-inflammatory diet, exercise correctly and improve your lifestyle so you get out of pain and decrease your chances of dementia, Alzheimer’s etc. etc.
