Goji Berries Good For Eyes

Goji berries, also known as wolfberries are available in most health food shops and are known for having high levels of antioxidants – the chemicals that prevent the human equivalent of rusting.

A trial in China has found that having some of the dried fruit every day helps improve damaged retinas, especially that caused by Type 2 Diabetes.

This is also great news for helping to prevent age related sight degeneration.

I’m happy because I already eat them. You can pick some up from Why Be Healthy in Finchley

More good news for vitamins

No matter how many times doctors, health officials, and poorly informed health journalists say we don't need to take vitamin supplements and they do no good, they can not stop the ever increasing flow of research that says otherwise.

It is sad that our modern lifestyle and food manufacturing processes have lead to this, but if we want to live a life removed from nature, and in un-natural civilised comfort, then we need to do un-natural things to keep healthy.

One is exercising just to exercise, as opposed to exercising as we have to hunt for food. Another is seeing a chiropractor to loosen those joints that stiffen up due to sitting for long hours. A third is taking vitamins to supplement a deficiency in the fruit and veg we eat.

A presentation at the 101st annual meeting of the American Association of Cancer Prevention revealed that taking vitamin supplements reduced the risk of breast cancer by 30%, and taking the mineral calcium reduced risks by 40%.

Quite staggering, so please pass on this information to those you care about. If you want advice about good vitamin and mineral supplements then contact me at the clinic.

Flu Vaccine - why take it?

As I have reported in the past, there is very little, in fact NO evidence that this vaccine is saving any lives so why is the government still spending money on it?

I hope further questions will be asked after this latest research in Canada.

Of 2731 people who had confirmed swine flu more than two thirds had had the ordinary flu shot, the other third hadn't.

So not only does the flu jab not save lives, it may actually weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible to other viruses.

Again, I ask the government - why are you wasting our money?

Especially when so much research points towards vitamin D3 supplements being far more effective at combating the flu, and a whole range of other diseases. See my earlier post 24 Billion

Talks, Miracles and More

Over the next month we’re going to be busy both learning and teaching at the clinic.

We have two talks coming up at the end of the month – one on Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) on the 30th, and the other on 23rd June “An Alternative to Statins”.

“An Alternative to Statins” is a presentation by cardiac specialist Dr David Dighton on his findings of 40 years of clinical experience. Dr Dighton specialises in the very early detection and prevention of heart disease.

For those of you who don’t know ‘statins’ are haled by the drug companies as a ‘miracle’ cholesterol lowering, life saving drug. Many doctors go along with this, and there are a few who spend more time investigating what is really going on – one such doctor is the good Dr Dighton.

For many years now statins have been controversial, mainly because the drug companies say they work, yet independent studies say they do very little, and many peoples personal experience with them is painful.

Dr Dighton is clear that they work – but only at two or three times the dose needed to lower cholesterol – which brings far more risks. For this reason Dr Dighton has tried to find an alternative way to clean arteries, or even better – prevent damage from happening.

If you know of anyone interested in heart disease, especially if they are a GP or other health care worker then please let them know about this talk. – It’s the 23rd of June, there will be a charge of £5 – and please call us on 01707 662 704 so we can book you a place.

I’ll tell you more about EFT next week – or you can read the previous article I’ve written –

On the learning front – I’m going on a very interesting course about Cranial Laser Reflex Technique – http://www.clrtechnique.com/

..but the excitement of the moment is the new pain relief patches I’m using in the clinic – you have to see it to believe it – here is a link to some of the videos that got me interested, and I have already seen some instant results….

It looks truly amazing – and it really is. I just cured a headache today in under a minute!

The sales page for the patches is here: www.lifewave.com/prc but I suggest you come in for a demo if you’re really interested.

More updates next time, and possibly some case histories to go up on the blog

Brain Chemistry

A number of years ago I read a fascinating book all about the brain – The Edge Effect, by Dr Eric Braverman.

In it he describes the four major chemicals that control and regulate our brain, and how the balance of them effects our health. These chemicals are known as neurotransmitters and are called dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and GABA.

In a nutshell:
Dopamine increases mental and physical power and reflexes.
Acetylcholine is needed for speed of thought.
GABA calms and stabilises the brain.
Serotonin helps resynchronise the brain and begin each day refreshed.

Some people naturally have higher levels of one neurotransmitter, and stress, injury, and poor diet can lead to deficiencies in them too. It is this interplay between natural levels, and acquired deficiencies that can play a part in causing disease.

According to Dr Braverman it’s not just depression, memory problems, Parkinson’s and the likes that can caused by brain neurotransmitter problems. A whole range of seemingly unrelated conditions – such as arthritis, headaches, PMS, high blood pressure, weight gain, thyroid problems, addictions, and even kidney problems and osteoporosis may all have their origins in the brain.

To chiropractors the idea that the brain and nervous system has such a tremendous and far reaching effect on human health is no surprise, and his form of treatment works very well with what we do at the clinic.

Dr Braverman has developed a simple questionnaire – the “Braverman Nature Assesment” which along with a medical history, examination and perhaps lab tests helps identify the balance of the four neurotransmitters and therefore an appropriate treatment plan. Treatment involves a range of therapies including diet, nutrition, and limited use of drugs in more serious cases.

If you’re interested in taking the test I’ve found a place online you can take it. Send me the results to interpret and the next time you’re in I can develop a program for you. Alternatively if you have a friend or relative who would like to take the test, but is to far away to come to the clinic, I can do telephone consultations.

You can do the test here: http://www.pintochiropractic.com/php/sec1a.php

Afterwards go and do your spinal hygiene exercises!

Chiropractic Heart Disease Special

Well,

I made it back from Dr Dighton’s office in Loughton.

What a nice man! And his assistant Noreen was lovely too.

Before I start revealing all the details I have a message from my clinic manager to pass on – our Female Hormone Specialist – Judy Evans – is in on Friday and has 3 slots open for consultations – so ring the clinic now on 01707 662 704 to book one.

I highly recommend Judy to any one suffering from the menopause, PMS, endometriosis, osteoporosis, or just general bad health and fatigue. If you want to know more then give us a ring or check out the Natural Progesterone page of the website:
http://www.thepainreliefcentres.co.uk/Natural_Progesterone.asp

So far in over 15 years of practice I’ve never personally met a medical doctor both so interested in what I do as a chiropractor, and so willing to look at the big picture of health, rather than just drugs and surgery.

There is no way I’m going to be able to get through everything I learned from Dr Dighton in the hour and a half of time he kindly gave me, but I’ll have a go.

First of all he said ‘statins work’. Coming from a doctor this was not shocking, and if you’ve read my past articles on cholesterol you’ll know I have a different opinion. But, Dr Dighton was not talking about their effect on lowering cholesterol, he was talking purely about there effect on reversing, or slowing atherosclerosis. Dr Dighton was also talking from first hand experience as they do ultrasound scans of arteries in his office, so he’s seen it.

He also stressed that no blood test can tell you whether you need to take them – you’re cholesterol level is irrelevant (which is what I’ve always said) and what you need is an ultrasound scan. It was also clear that the amount you need to make a difference may be 3 or more times the amount needed to lower cholesterol. Dr Dighton wasn’t happy with this though and thinks there is a better, safer way.

Dr Dighton then went on to explain that of course the best way to treat heart disease is to not get it in the first place by following a heart healthy lifestyle. He had a little bit of a dig at modern medicine as he found most of his colleagues uninterested in the idea of promoting health and said all these drugs really do is ‘keep you going’ rather than actually curing anything.

Dr Dighton has spent many years trying to find out the very best foods for the heart, as well as what are the ones to avoid and came up with some quite surprising findings. All the details can be found in either of his two books.

He has also looked into what supplements can help and has formulated an easy to take powdered drink with everything heart healthy in it.

I’ll get into more detail next time – such as the 3 types of atherosclerotic plaque that block the arteries – including which is the dangerous one – and what is the nutrient Dr Dighton recommends we can’t get enough of.

If you can’t wait then you can call the clinic to reserve a tub of his Heart Sense powder, and get a free copy of his book with it. If you have anyone in the family with heart disease and they are sceptical about nutrition now is the time to get them on something Dr approved.

You can call us on 01707 662 704, or just pop in to the Brookmans Park clinic.
