Exercise Your Heart really Needs

Well, I’m cheating, as I’m going to be cheeky and just reproduce an email I got from Dr Al Sears back in 2009 -

Dear Christopher,

Is your doctor telling you to take an aspirin for your heart?

If so, you may be putting your life at risk.

Aspirin is fine for the occasional headache, or to take while you are having a heart attack, but NOT as a daily preventive medication.

Yet each day nearly 50 million Americans take an aspirin, hoping to prevent a heart attack.

I’ve never been a fan of using daily doses of drugs to prevent disease. Especially when there are safe, natural alternatives. And this new information about aspirin confirms my beliefs.
A new Scottish study reveals that aspirin has no effect on preventing strokes, coronary and vascular events. Even worse, daily aspirin use increases internal bleeding.

In other words, taking aspirin daily won’t save you from a heart attack.

But “daily aspirin therapy” is the medical marketing idea that just won’t die, no matter how many people do. Here are just a few of its clinically-proven dangers:
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Stroke
  • Major abdominal bleeding
  • Ulcers
  • Cataracts
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Kidney failure
Fortunately, there are natural alternatives to aspirin that really work. Some have been around since the B.C. era. So consider the wisdom of our ancestors before taking your next aspirin.

White willow bark is the original aspirin. It comes from a tree native to Europe and Asia. The medicinal use of willow bark dates back to the ancient Egyptians who took advantage of its anti-inflammatory power.

Even the so-called “father of medicine,” the ancient Greek doctor Hippocrates, had his patients chew on white willow bark to reduce fever and inflammation.

Here’s why it works. White willow bark contains salicin, the same curative compound found in aspirin. But there’s a big difference.

White willow bark won’t upset your stomach. It won’t cause bleeding in your GI tract. Your body first has to extract the salicin from the plant’s natural fibers, slowing its release into your system. White willow bark stays in your system longer and provides lasting relief.

And here’s a convenient way to enjoy the healing benefits of white willow bark. You can reduce inflammation by drinking white willow tea. You’ll find it in health and nutrition stores. Try a cup after breakfast and at bedtime.

Plus, there are plenty of ways to lower your risk of heart attack without taking aspirin. Here’s what I recommend to avoid aspirin and do something healthy for your heart:
  • Get proper exercise. My PACE program is a great example. It protects your heart, pumps up your lung volume and burns fat in just minutes a day.
  • Supplement with Accel each day. CoQ10 has well-documented benefits for the heart. Accel, which is 8 times more bioavailable than regular CoQ10, is a heart-healthy powerhouse. My new formula includes the power of tocotrienols (the right Vitamin E), so it stays in your system longer for better heart health. It’s the only supplement I take each day.
To Your Good Health,
Al Sears, MD

Walking Is The Ultimate Exercise

Physical exercise in general has a number of benefits for the health of your body:-

·         improves circulation, improves heart efficiency and maintains artery elasticity
·         tones respiratory muscles, improving exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide
·         aids elimination of toxic and metabolic wastes by promoting perspiration and intestinal motility
·         stimulates endorphin release in the brain, fighting depression and improving our mood
·         regulates metabolism
·         neutralises stress
·         enhances immune function

Walking has even more benefits in addition to the above:-

·         it integrates and exercises the brain – requiring input from our balance receptors (mainly inner ear and jaw); proprioception from our feet, low back and neck; visual input and further information from pretty much everywhere else in the body.  This is why it takes babies so long to learn.
·         the opposite arm and leg movements help harmonise the whole nervous system – improving mental function and co-ordination.  Children with less co-ordination and learning difficulties like dyslexia tend to have been poor crawlers or walked too soon.  A simple exercise may be all that’s needed to correct these problems, even as an adult.
·         walking is the only exercise that properly exercises your sacroiliac joints in your pelvis, which are responsible for 70% of back pain
·         walking stimulates ‘cranio-sacral’ rhythm, which in simple terms means your brain and nervous system keep bathed in nutrients.  Cerebro-spinal fluid is the ‘blood’ of the nervous system, including the brain.  The heart does not pump this fluid so other mechanisms such as deep breathing and walking are employed.
·         May be the only acceptable pre-breakfast exercise.  You read that correctly, exercising while you are in a fasting state places your body under a great deal of stress and may be worse than not doing it at all!

Medical research has actually documented active walkers as having 20% less chance of getting breast cancer, a 30% less chance of getting heart disease, a 50% less chance of diabetes.  No drug can do this.

So how much do you have to do?  To improve your heart as little as half an hour, three times a week at a moderately brisk pace.  The most benefits are gained by walking 7 hours a week, so a few short walks at lunch time or in the evening, with longer ones at the weekend.

To top it all off, walking requires no special equipment, it costs nothing, you already know how to do it and you can do it anywhere.

Thank you for reading, now go and have a walk.

There are MAJOR problems with tap water, and its only going to get worse….

1) Chlorinated water is associated with 9% of bladder cancer and 18% of rectal cancers and has been linked to the skin cancer melanoma.  Perhaps more shocking is that pregnant mothers drinking more than 5 glasses a day of tap water had an increased chance of miscarriage.
2) Another problem with chlorine is that it reacts with other chemicals we put into the water.  One is the antibacterial ‘triclosan’ used in many soaps.  When mixed with chlorine it forms a toxic chemical called a dioxin.
3) 90% of every drug that a person takes is either excreted unchanged, or turned into something else still active before being flushed down the toilet, into the sewage system and then into tap water.
Drugs found include antibiotics, ibuprofen, cholesterol lowering drugs, prozac, hormones and chemotherapy agents.
4) Over 10,500 chemical ingredients are used to manufacture personal care products such as moisturisers, cleansers, deodorants, shampoos and soaps and they all end up in our water.

What is the effect of all these chemicals on us and the environment?  Nobody knows the full extent yet, but we do know there are detrimental effects on the glandular systems of fish and amphibians studied.  And British male sperm count has dropped by over a half in the past 50 years – maybe this is nature’s way of killing us off!

Little is being done to prevent these chemicals getting into our water supply by the water companies, but there is something you can do - use a water filter. A really good one is The Wellness Water Filter as it not only has the best means of removing unwanted chemicals it imparts qualities to the water that increase its healing abilities.  Now you don’t have to spend a fortune, only £50, then replacement filters cost £20.  The cost of 1 litre of the best filtered water is less than 15p.  Less than the cheapest bottled water.

We sometimes stock them in the clinic, but you can find them online.

Infectious diseases

Take a look at some of the charts by following this link:

Did you notice the amount and rate at which all of these infectious disease fell before the introduction of vaccines?  Now governments and doctors have been hoodwinked into believing these disease where wiped out by vaccines, which is really not true.

Public health education really is the key.

Originally this meant washing hands, sanitation and eating better.

I grabbed this directly from Nexus magazine:

Real reason for the decline

The reason most medical historians give for the decline in deaths for these diseases are improvements in nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition being foremost. A very influential report by Dr Moises Behar, published in world health, explains as follows:
“In the now developed countries, mortality due to tuberculosis, measles, whooping cough, typhoid fever, diarrhoeal diseases and many other infections began to fall long before the responsible microbial agents had been identified and before specific measures of control or treatment were known. The decline–much greater than any achieved since through the use of vaccination and antimicrobial drugs–paralleled the improvement in general living conditions. Microbes and diseases caused by them prosper, therefore, only in environmental conditions favourable to them.”
Regarding nutrition, Dr Behar went on to say:
“A debilitated organism is far less resistant to attack by invading micro-organisms. Ordinary measles or diarrhoea–harmless and short lived diseases among well fed children–are usually serious and often fatal to the chronically malnourished. Before vaccines existed, practically every child in all countries caught measles, but 300 times more deaths occurred in the poorer countries than in the richer ones. The reason was not that the virus was more virulent, nor that there were fewer medical services, but that in poorly nourished communities the microbes attack a host which, because of chronic malnutrition, is less able to resist.”
    The report concluded:
“For the time being, an adequate diet is the most effective ‘vaccine’ against the most of the diarrhoeal, respiratory and other infection.”

.
However, there have been other trends over the past 50 years that is now causing its own toll:
Increased calories
Decreased exercise
And now – decreasing nutrient intake too.

I think our nutritional status, which the above report outlines as the real boost to our health, is declining again, and this will be the reason we see increased infectious diseases.  It is not because of lack of vaccine uptake, or the need to create stronger antibiotics. We need to use less drugs and more nutrition (and exercise).

We have to realise that our health is our responsibility, not that of the government or a doctor.  Money for health care as we know it should be reserved for when things really do go wrong – real emergencies, and when all else has failed.

For some more information on vaccines:

Again, if anyone thinks that routine childhood vaccination is more safe and effective than optimal nutrition and hygiene I’d like to see the research that proves it.

Chiropractic Nuts!

I have 3 things to share with you today. First the nutty world of medicine, second non-nutty D3 news, and then something great about pecan nuts!
It’s always amazed me that although most of the drugs prescribed by doctors have side effects, often leading to a shorter life, they are based on naturally occurring substances that have similar benefits, without the risks.
One such drug, often touted as ‘safe’ is aspirin. Yet even this drug is related to doubling the risk of heart attacks and tripling the risk of stroke, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal. Completely at odd to the normal, unscientific practice, of giving it to people ‘just in case’. You can however get your daily dose of aspirin another way, without the risk, and in fact with more benefits.

Simply try eat 9 or 10 portions of vegetables and fruits every day – most contain natural aspirin. Doing this will dramatically improve many aspects of your health – and you’ll probably loose weight too.

Vitamin D3: A new study has found that larger doses may protect against breast cancer – Vitamin D3
Nuts: Pecan nuts contain a number of anti-oxidant compounds and they help prevent the oxidation of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. This is something statins can’t do. It is the oxidation process that turns LDL cholesterol, which is very important for your immune system, into something that can clog arteries. Here's a link to the article:

Orlando – 18 broken bones

Hello

It’s been a busy time since getting back from Orlando and the Immunotec conference, what with training for the London Marathon, and trying to raise money for the North London Hospice.

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far. Unfortunately the North London Hospice need more to carry on their amazing work. You can give online through this link:

Now, getting back to getting back from Orlando…

I went away knowing that Immunocal was the best supplement I’ve come across in 16 years, but after meeting the owners of the company and people who’ve been on the stuff for years I’m even more of an advocate now! So you’ll have to put up with me talking and writing about it for some time.

I met cancer survivors, people who’d been bad ridden from arthritis and fibromyalgia, a guy with hepatitis C and others – all who had been crippled before taking Immunocal. It’s not clear with the cancer victims how much the Immunocal helped, but they said they felt it made the difference.

The most amazing story for me came from a lady I’d been talking to most of the weekend, and she told me she’d been in a car accident several years before and had broken 18 bones. 18! She was not expected to live through the emergency surgery, but when she did the doctors where amazed. Then they told her it would take 18 months of rehabilitation to get back to normal activity. It only took her 5 weeks to recover. She had started taking Immunocal before her accident, and is extremely thankful she did, and still does.

Never have I come across a supplement with such amazing health benefits. And I’ve never been more excited about helping people’s health more, except when I graduated as a chiropractor.

You can ask at the clinic for more details, or read more about it on my blog:
